    DOWN WITH THE EURO !!!

The US economy is in big trouble , the price of gas is way down, and the US Dollar has gained in strength vs. the Euro.
There has been a 17% change in our favor in the last few months.
    Will it last ?
    Who knows ?
I do know that this is a great time to buy European made basses , of which we have a few.
With this in mind, you will now find 20% price drops on all or our Jerzy Drozd, Adamovic , and Aries basses

    What I’m Digging

Check out these Watson basses , both with great looking Koa tops. See the expanded listing for each bass in the Basses in Stock section. Well, forget about pretty woods, because they mean nothing if the bass cannot deliver on sound and playability. These basses cover all areas in world class style.

They are as well built as any I have come across. Watson is not a household name, and they are not inexpensive, but as always , I urge you to base your "value" assessment on the true quality of the instrument. You can easily spend more and not get a better bass.

Get one in your hands before you spend more on another bass. Then make an informed decision.

The World's First Six String Bass ?
No, not really - but this bass was made way back in 1976 for upright bassist extraordinaire Rufus Reed.
It is a 34" scale instrument , so it IS a bass , not a baritone guitar like the Fender Bass VI, which Rufus used used before having this bass made by Chicago based builder Jim Beach of long gone Wooden Music. I am sure that back then the bass was strung up with a low E , as low B 's were not readily available , as far as I can tell.
( Anthony Jackson must have had some custom strings made for his '74-75 Carl Thompson 6. )

Great Idea - Bad Execution This bass has serious design flaws - what do you think they are ?

The other bass is my design, by the same builder , made in 1979-81 ( talk about slow ! ) This was my first ever custom bass. As you may have guessed, I like a lot of tone control on the bass. Each pickup has its' own Bartolini 3 band EQ. This bass also has a design flaw, less serious than those on the above 6.

    "TBYB"

Hey, looks do count , but they are third in my list of tone, playability, and then looks as factors to consider when evaluating a bass. When you see a new bass on the LAG site, it is quite likely a brand you have not played. Your interest may have been inspired merely by the pics you see. Web photos tell you almost NOTHING about that bass. Our TBYB program exists primarily for that reason - you can audition the basses you see on our site, most likely basses you cannot find in your area. Step up, step out, and take a chance. With TBYB you have no risk of being dissatisfied with your choice
